The faces of the Act on Alcohol team have changed in the last couple of months. Since our launch some people have moved on, and some have stayed the same. As our newest recruit has only been with us a couple of weeks this is the perfect opportunity for introductions so you can learn a little more about us.
Caroline Giles is our Team Leader. She joined the team with extensive health promotion and public health experience. While working in Queensland, she predominantly worked in the public health nutrition arena throughout regional areas of Queensland.
Loral Courtney is the only original Act on Alcohol community development officer. Commencing work with Act on Alcohol was the first of many big changes for Loral. In the first few months she had redirected her career from nursing to community development, moved from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane and stopped wearing a uniform for the first time since grade 1. Community engagement and development means Loral can continue to work with people, with a focus on health rather than illness.
Joe Guta is our newest recruit. He has worked in Mt Isa as a health promotion officer in the sexual health unit. More recently worked for Life Education as a health educator. He brings to the team strong expertise in working with rural and remote and diverse communities as well as presentation and facilitation skills. Working with the Act on Alcohol team is the way he plans to harness his passion of empowering various communities to improve quality of life.
